Google adds Icons for Mobile Optimized Sites

Google is working to further the mobile search platform by labeling sites that are mobile friendly. Now while searching on a mobile device such as your smartphone, you may begin to see small icons near a mobile friendly result, such as this :

When SearchEngineland asked Google about this development, they replied with the following:

We’re experimenting with ways to optimize the mobile search experience, including helping users identify smartphone-optimized sites. We don’t have any more details to share at the moment, but thank you for checking in.

We’ve always encouraged business owners to create mobile websites to make things easier on users and to ensure that visitors don’t leave the site because it is incompatible with their mobile device. Traditional sites also do not rank as well as mobile sites when it comes to mobile searching. With this new development, it’s even more important to create a mobile-friendly site, because users might not even try to navigate your site if they can tell that it is not a mobile website, causing you to lose business.
